Melbourne City Suburbs - Kensington

The City of Melbourne takes in part of Kensington and a small slice of the neighbouring suburb of Flemington (the part of Flemington that is home to the famous Flemington Racecourse and the Melbourne Showgrounds).

The portions of Kensington and Flemington within the City of Melbourne are included here as just Kensington.

The area has a distinctive character, a quirky mix of housing types and village-like shopping hub, Kensington has won hearts for its appealing residential character. Houses range from small period dwellings and public housing flats to new townhouses and the Kensington Banks housing development on a former abattoir and army depot site.

The area also features a scattered mix of industrial and commercial land uses, and major roads, rail yards, electricity facilities, the aforementioned Flemington Racecourse, Australia’s most famous racetrack and home to the Melbourne Cup, and the Royal Agricultural Showgrounds.
